Job summary

Benchmark Utility Services is seeking an Assistant Safety Manager to support safety program development and field oversight on active construction sites in Virginia. The role focuses on excavation and trenching safety, PPE compliance, and incident investigations, reporting to the Senior Safety Manager.

Ideal candidates have OSHA 510 or STSC certification, a high school diploma or GED, and strong communication skills with the ability to work with diverse crews across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• OSHA 510 or STSC certification required or preferred.
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in implementing and monitoring SHMS.
• Conduct site inspections and safety audits for OSHA/DOT compliance.
• Support in Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Pre-Task Plans.
• Monitor PPE usage and ensure crew safety.
• Assist in incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Maintain safety documentation and training records.
• Provide field-level safety support during high-risk activities.
