Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a dedicated Special Inspector to perform field and laboratory inspections on construction materials and activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications and codes.

The role requires strong technical knowledge, effective communication, and the ability to work independently in field environments, with travel as needed. A high school diploma is required and higher degrees or certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent; Associates or Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in construction inspection or materials testing.
Current certifications in ICC Special Inspection, ACI, AWS CWI, or NICET preferred.
Strong understanding of IBC, ASTM, ACI, AWS, and other applicable codes and standards.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

Perform field and/or laboratory inspections of construction materials and activities.
Prepare and maintain detailed records of inspections, test results, and observations.
Interpret project plans, specifications, and codes to ensure compliance.
Communicate findings to project managers, contractors, and engineers.
Maintain certifications and continuing education as required.
