The City of Columbus is seeking an inspector to supervise and inspect a variety of construction and maintenance projects to ensure conformance with plans, drawings, and specifications. The role involves field testing, documentation, and coordinating with utilities and contractors.

Completion of the 12th grade and one year of related construction experience are required; significant coursework may substitute for experience.

Qualifications

Completion of the twelfth school grade and one year of experience in the construction, inspection, or field testing of materials in the construction or repair of hard infrastructure.
Significant coursework in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field may substitute for the experience requirement.
A certificate of high school equivalence (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the twelfth grade completion requirements.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

Inspects a variety of new construction and maintenance projects for conformance to plans, drawings, sketches, and specifications.
Oversees construction to ensure procedures and materials comply with plans and standard drawings.
Investigates complaints of sidewalk damage, potholes, and repairs to structures; identifies property owners and prepares repair notices.
Tests and inspects sub-grade, base, paving, and drainage installations; checks concrete work and materials for conformity to specs.
Maintains logs, prepares progress reports, and documents work performed.
May recommend changes in water line location and performs hydrostatic tests.
