Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a field-based Construction Inspector to perform on-site inspections of large-scale projects and ensure compliance with design specifications, codes and safety requirements.

You will document results, review submittals, and coordinate with engineers, project teams, and contractors while traveling to sites as needed. A high school diploma and at least five years of construction experience are required, with preferred federal or DoD exposure.

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site inspections of construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance projects to verify compliance with design specs, standards, safety codes, and federal regulations.
• Document inspection results, including deficiencies, deterioration, structural condition, deviations from design, corrective actions, and sampling needs.
• Review submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and material certifications with engineers and project management.
• Monitor construction progress; prepare daily reports, deficiency notices, status reports, and recommendations.
• Inspect materials and testing processes (concrete breaks, compaction, welding, pressure testing) to ensure compliance.
• Oversee and coordinate field construction services, enforcing safety, environmental, quality control, and permitting requirements.
• Conduct site investigations; review maps, reports, test results, drawings and related data.
• Participate in pre-construction meetings, design reviews, safety meetings, and punch list activities.
• Ensure compliance with permits and safety guidelines; deliver technical files and documentation.
• Develop and mentor junior staff; provide technical direction and liaise between contractors, engineers, and client.
• Performs other duties as required.
