Job summary

K&A Engineering Consulting in Ithaca, New York, seeks a Field Construction Coordinator to oversee field work on electric utility projects. You will coordinate schedules, safety, and QA with the Project Manager and Construction Manager, ensuring on-time, within-budget delivery and strong communication with contractors.

The role requires five years of utility construction experience, supervision background, and proficiency with MS Excel, GPS, and SAP.

Qualifications

• Five years of electric utility industry experience with transmission facilities construction management.
• Two years of college is preferred.
• Construction Project Engineer background preferred.
• Distribution line work experience required.
• MS Suite with high competency in MS Excel is required.
• Knowledge of NRA clearances and switching orders would be beneficial.
• Review project plans, statements, contract enforcement and technical standards (OSHA/regulations).
• Detailed work experience in electrical utility transmission UV/OV & civil construction.
• US work authorization and valid US Driver License in good standing.
• Minimum of 5 years of supervisory capacity experience.
• GPS and SAP knowledge preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret specifications and drawings and convey interpretations to contractors.
• Investigate and solve construction problems with limited dependency on others.
• Computer and Administrative skills.
• Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Willingness to attend training in E-STAR/CONVEX.

Responsibilities

• Field Support to Resolve Problems – Being Proactive.
• Must do Reporting – Weekly and Monthly Reports; track weekly PayId’s.
• Monitor Schedule – Look Ahead vs. PM.
• Attend contractor safety/environment/quality meetings; provide input.
• Maintain onsite H&S, Environment and Quality project binder.
• Document project progress for a solid paper trail.
• Review contractor invoices and schedules; provide feedback.
• Conduct weekly progress meetings; request two-week look ahead.
• Present onsite when work is performed and observe contractor activities.
• Notify PM of problems or foreseeable issues.
• Coordinate material delivery between customer stockroom and contractor.
• Inspect project materials for damage and completeness.
• Inspect work to ensure workmanship meets specs; schedule.
• Facilitate resolving construction problems with engineering, inspectors, and contractors; strong communication.
• Minimize Change Orders; assist PM in review.
• Review project documents to enhance constructability; consider schedule/cost/quality.
• Maintain daily on-site as-built plans.
• Communicate with PM; adhere to CIP and safety regulations.
• Promote proactive safety culture; encourage reporting unsafe conditions.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and inspections.
