Job summary

City of Houston is seeking a Compliance Inspector for the Houston Water/Wastewater Operations to oversee the wastewater treatment system, conduct routine inspections, and ensure regulatory compliance across multiple facilities.

The role emphasizes field work five days a week, reporting findings, and coordinating corrective actions while maintaining professional relationships with plant personnel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Project Management or related field.
• Four (4) years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, landscape design, geotechnical, environmental or related field.
• Substitution: related professional architectural, construction or landscape design experience may substitute the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent, routine operational oversight and internal compliance auditing of the city's wastewater treatment system (38 WWTPs and 365 lift stations).
• Conduct frequent hands-on inspections of facilities and lift stations to evaluate operations, documentation, and compliance with permits and procedures.
• Identify, document, and communicate non-compliance or deficiencies; prepare non-compliance reports and track corrective actions.
• Serve as internal check-and-balance between plant operations and management; provide field-based oversight five days per week.
