Job summary

Highland Electric Fleets is seeking a detail-oriented Field Commissioning Technician to support go-live for new EV charging sites. You will conduct vehicle inspections, site readiness checks, and documentation while traveling to customer locations across the United States.

The role emphasizes on-site diagnostics, troubleshooting, and coordinating with the Commissioning Engineer, with 50–75% travel and a remote-friendly setup. A strong safety mindset and excellent communication are essential.

Qualifications

Exceptional attention to detail and a high standard for accurate, organized documentation.
Demonstrated time-management skills, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to driving continuous process improvement.
Proficiency with computers and standard software (documentation tools, spreadsheets, asset/project management platforms) required.
Automotive Technology certification from an accredited school preferred (not required).
Willingness to develop project management and project coordination skills; prior experience a plus.
Basic electrical and AC skills.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work in varying weather conditions.
Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if required.
Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

Represent the company at customer locations with professional conduct.
Support go-live process for new EV charging sites, coordinating on-site activities and flagging risks to the Commissioning Engineer.
Conduct new vehicle inspections, verifying vehicle readiness and documenting findings prior to site activation.
Assist technicians in asset inspections, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing customer assets on-site.
Follow established safety procedures to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely documentation for all commissioning activities, inspections, and work completed.
Support HV charger operations, including conducting plug cycles and responding to service needs during commissioning.
Perform LV battery replacements and jump-starts as needed.
Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work environment to ensure efficiency and safety.
Develop and maintain strong customer service skills, ensuring a positive customer experience throughout the go-live process.
Participate in training programs and hands-on learning opportunities to develop technical and project coordination expertise.
