Job summary

City of San Clemente is seeking a Code Compliance Technician to support the Community Development Department in enforcing the City’s Municipal Code. The role emphasizes field investigations, public contact, and problem-solving to maintain safe and well‑maintained neighborhoods.

The ideal candidate will handle complaints, document findings, and assist with enforcement while working a non-traditional schedule that may include evenings and weekends, four ten-hour shifts Thursday through Sunday.

Qualifications

• One year of work experience involving customer/public contact or related field work.
• Associate degree or two years of college from an accredited US college or university.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C Driver License at the time of appointment
• Completion of PC 832 Arrest, Search, and Seizure certification within six months of appointment
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California Association of Code Enforcement Officers Code Enforcement Officer II certification within two years of appointment

Responsibilities

• Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints of alleged violations; interview complainants and witnesses; document activities.
• Perform field investigations and proactive inspections of assigned areas.
• Prepare notices of violations and maintain accurate case records.
• Coordinate with other City departments and external agencies as needed.
• Prepare reports for court or administrative proceedings and testify when required
