Job summary

The City of San Marcos, CA is seeking an experienced Code Compliance Officer in the Development Services Department to enforce local codes and ordinances and protect the community.

You will conduct field investigations, issue notices of violation, prepare reports, and participate in multi-agency efforts while engaging with property owners and the public to resolve violations and ensure compliance, with a strong commitment to service.

Qualifications

• Education equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by courses in planning, law, public administration, law enforcement, or related field.
• Two years experience performing code enforcement or similar public contact work.

Responsibilities

• Investigates and responds to complaints regarding alleged violations of zoning, housing, and other codes and ordinances.
• Issues citations, conducts follow-up inspections, and prepares reports to ensure compliance.
• Testifies at hearings and in court and maintains investigation records and files.
