Job summary

Caltrans is seeking an entry, working, and journeyman-level TE (Civil) engineer in Structure Construction (DES) to perform professional engineering work on highway projects. The incumbent will work in office or field settings, progressing to more complex tasks as experience grows.

Responsibilities include ensuring contract-compliant construction of bridges, walls, barriers, drainage structures, and sign structures.

Responsibilities

• Work as a field engineer to ensure contractors build structures in accordance with contract documents (Standard Plans, Standard Specifications, contract plans, and Special Provisions).
• May act as an Assistant Structure Representative or Assistant Resident Engineer/Resident Engineer on construction projects.
• Structure representation on projects where work is predominately structural (bridges, tall walls) and compliance with Streets and Highways Code Section 137.6.
