Job summary

HDR is seeking an Assistant Resident Engineer / Assistant Structures Representative to oversee roadway, utilities, and structural construction on transportation projects. You will support contract administration, field inspections, and coordination with Caltrans, local agencies, and contractors, ensuring compliance with plans and specs.

The role requires documenting daily activities, managing submittals and change orders, and maintaining safety and quality on site.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or closely related field.
Requires professional engineering license recognized by licensing board.
Experience with Microsoft Office, Estimating & CPM Scheduling Software, and web-based document collaboration software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Active participant in employee-owned culture is a must.

Responsibilities

Coordinate field inspections to verify construction activities follow approved plans and standards.
Prepare and maintain project records, reports, and punch-lists.
Assist in review of submittals, RFIs, field directives, and change orders.
Monitor safety, traffic control, and environmental requirements on site.
Develop and verify grade, elevation, and structural drawings in the field.
