Job summary

Sperry Rail, Inc. in Dubuque, IA is seeking a CDL Driver to operate hi-rail and rail-bound detector vehicles in a field-based, high-travel role across Eastern or Western US.

You will perform inspections, data collection, and DOT/compliance duties, with extensive travel lasting multiple months at a time. The position requires a valid CDL A or B with air brake, strong communication, and the ability to meet physical demands.

Qualifications

• Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical, drug screen, and background check.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
• 2+ years of commercial driving experience.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Travel extensively (3–4 months at a time) within assigned regions.
• Operate hi-rail trucks and rail-bound detector cars on roadways and tracks.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Maintain DOT compliance, including logs, inspections, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist with rail flaw detection testing and data collection.
• Monitor and interpret data on onboard computer systems.
• Perform ground-level rail inspections using handheld equipment.
• Follow safety policies and wear PPE; report issues promptly.
