4LEAF, Inc. seeks qualified Part-Time Building Inspectors to perform technical inspections in Santa Barbara County, CA.

Inspectors must be certified with ICC, and NFPA/IAPMO certifications are highly desired. Responsibilities include inspecting new buildings and alterations for code compliance, communicating complex issues clearly to contractors and owners, and providing expert guidance to planning and code enforcement personnel.

Qualifications

• ICC Certification demonstrating knowledge of federal, state, and local building laws and codes.
• Understanding of accepted safety standards, testing procedures and methods of construction.
• Principles and techniques of building inspection work.
• Basic understanding of the plan checking process.
• Computer knowledge and skills are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Inspect new and existing buildings for compliance with adopted codes.
• Explain building regulations to contractors, designers, owners, and the public.
• Identify and resolve complex code issues with developers and architects.
• Field questions regarding building requirements during inspections.
• Perform independent analysis during the inspection process.
• Advise Planning, Engineering and Code Enforcement personnel on building-related issues.
• Read and interpret various codes and apply judgment in enforcement.
• Write correction notices and inspection reports.
• Check building plans and codes against requirements.
• Enforce codes with impartiality and sound judgment.
• Apply technical building trade knowledge.
• Perform duties in accordance with OSHA standards.
