Job summary

Pickering Creek Audubon Center, situated on a tidal tributary of the Chesapeake Bay, seeks a part-time, seasonal School-Year Educator to inspire students and advance conservation. The role supports our education team, reports to the Director of Education, and collaborates with staff, volunteers, and schools.

The ideal candidate has at least one year of field-based teaching or work with children, an undergraduate degree in biology or related field, and a passion for birds, wildlife, and habitats.

Qualifications

• At least one year of experience teaching or working with children in a field-based environment.
• Undergraduate degree in biology, education, environmental education, environmental science or related field.
• Committed to the conservation of birds, wildlife and habitats.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and communication skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Lead field-based, classroom and virtual environmental education programs including on Pickering Creek's 450 acres, at schools, partnering sites, and online through virtual meeting platforms for pre-K, elementary, middle and high school students.
• Serve as a role model naturalist and environmental steward for students, teachers, community and public audiences.
• Work closely with other staff to plan and implement programs.
• Collaborate with other staff to prepare and lead public, community and volunteer programs for families, adults and youth.
• Assist with the care of buildings and grounds including weekly trail and habitat maintenance.
• Provide care for program animals including feeding and animal tank maintenance.
• Contribute to Center's public communications including social media and a weekly email digest.
