Job summary

A nature-focused organization in Connecticut is seeking a Summer Camp Teacher-Naturalist to teach outdoor science and nature programming for children ages 5–13. Responsibilities include preparing and implementing a curriculum that encourages outdoor exploration through hands-on activities such as games and arts and crafts. The ideal candidate should be at least 18 years old with experience working with children and some college coursework in related fields. First Aid/CPR certification is an advantage. This position offers an hourly wage based on experience.

Job description

The Connecticut Audubon Society offers nature-based summer camp programs for children ages 5–13 at multiple centers across the state. These programs provide children with immersive outdoor experiences centered on nature, science, and exploration. The Summer Camp Teacher-Naturalist reports to the Summer Camp Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach outdoor science and nature programming to children ages 5–13 in an outdoor setting
  • Prepare and implement curriculum on a variety of topics that help children experience the outdoors through hands-on activities, games, hikes, guided nature exploration, and arts and crafts
  • Support summer camp program logistics, including setup, cleanup, and materials preparation
  • Participate in required pre-camp training

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Experience working with children and/or in natural history or ecology
  • College-level coursework in education and/or natural sciences
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions
  • First Aid/CPR certification is a plus

Salary is hourly and based on experience.
