Job summary

Mass Audubon is seeking a Seasonal Field Teacher to support field trips and in-school programs at Oak Knoll and Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuaries in Attleboro, MA. You will lead hands-on nature-based learning for students from kindergarten through high school and help align activities with science standards.

This role emphasizes safety, collaboration, and inclusive teaching, with typical hours 0-20 per week and a schedule from October 2026 through June 2027.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and lead school program participants in hands-on nature-based learning at Mass Audubon Wildlife sanctuaries and at school/program sites.
• Maintain educational supplies, curricula, materials, and resources.
• Assist with planning and development of new programs and activities as needed.
• Monitor program participants in indoor and outdoor environments and ensure safety and comfort.
• Teach a variety of environmental educational activities.
• Engage participants in hands-on learning to develop ecology and conservation knowledge.
• Assist in setting up before and cleaning up after programs.
• Travel to various sites throughout Norfolk and Bristol Counties to facilitate programming.

About This Position
We are seeking field teachers to help with field trips and in-school programs at Oak Knoll and Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuaries. Our field trip programs engage students in kindergarten through high school in hikes and nature exploration at our sanctuaries. Our in-school programs offer engaging kits and hands‑on activities in the classrooms. All our programs align with state and national science standards and encourage exploration, collaboration, and inquiry. Field teachers can help with programs at one or both sites in Norfolk and Bristol County.

Must Haves

• Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching or other equity‑based pedagogy
• Flexibility and ability to adapt programming to fit each group’s needs
• First Aid and CPR (child and adult) certification

Compensation, Benefits and Perks
This position’s pay range is $19.00-$20.00 per hour; actual rate of pay will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements. This is not a benefits eligible position.

Work Schedule
This position runs from October 2026 through June 2027. Hours vary based on program demand and may range from 0-20 hours per week. Programs are typically scheduled Monday-Friday between 8:00am and 4:00pm, with occasional Saturday opportunities. Most work is available during the busy field trip seasons (October-November and April-June), with limited or no programming during the winter months.

Other Requirements
Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
