Job summary

ERM is hiring an Archaeological Field Technician to support survey efforts for projects located in Bishop, CA. The role involves archaeological field surveys, construction monitoring, and extensive travel across Northern and Southern California.

Duration is 6 months, with potential extension, full-time (40-60 hours/week). Responsibilities include walking long distances, documenting resources, coordinating with clients and staff, and adhering to safety policies.

Qualifications

• BA in Anthropology or related field required; MA preferred.
• 2+ years of field experience in cultural resources management.
• Ability to travel extensively within CA and neighboring states.
• 1+ years of construction monitoring experience.
• Identify and record precontact and historic resources.
• Experience with ESRI products (ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123).
• Field school or prior survey experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Walk long distances up to 10 miles per day over varied terrain and lift equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Conduct archaeological monitoring during construction.
• Document resources and update records; maintain field notes.
• Coordinate with ERM staff, clients, and contractors.
• Adhere to health and safety policies and project requirements.
• Conduct shovel testing and subsurface excavations; screen soils.
