Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants in Tucson, AZ, seeks a Staff Archaeologist to join the Arizona Cultural Resources team. This field-heavy role involves survey, testing, data recovery, and project coordination under a Field Director while supporting office tasks.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s in anthropology or archaeology, field experience, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to travel and lift up to 40 pounds.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or related field.
• One year of field experience in survey, testing, excavation, or monitoring.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a 4WD vehicle on rugged backcountry roads.
• Ability to travel, work long hours in rugged terrain, and lift up to 40 pounds.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Conduct archaeological survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring.
• Supervise field crew and train junior staff as needed.
• Prepare site forms, perform literature reviews, and contribute to technical reports.
• QA/QC data, organize field GPS data with tablets and Geodes.
• Coordinate with Project Archaeologists, PI, and clients to plan projects.
