Job description

Job Title: Fiber Technician
Reports To: Lead Communications Technician or Superintendent

Job Summary:

The Fiber Technician is responsible for all aspects of fiber optic work, including installation, termination, testing, and splicing.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Cabling & Termination: Install work area outlets, mount faceplates and surface mount boxes, build closets, install grounding, complete IDC connections, and perform testing and troubleshooting of fiber cables. Install various connectors and breakout outside plant fiber. Calculate loss budgets and complete all paperwork accurately.
2. Testing: Use OTDR and Fluke DTX 180 for testing, troubleshooting, and problem correction across the network.
3. Splicing: Perform mechanical and fusion splicing, including building entrance and direct buried splices.
4. Physical and Mental Requirements: Must be self-motivated, professional, able to work at heights and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds, and travel as needed. Must have good vision, color recognition, and hearing.
5. Education, Certification, License, and Skills: High School diploma or GED, proficiency with tools, experience with fiber termination and testing, industry certifications preferred, and experience with fiber splicing.
6. Career Path: Lead Communications Technician with a salary range of USD $25.00 to $32.00 per hour.
7. Qualifications: Valid driver’s license, own vehicle, fiber splicing experience, knowledge of CATV equipment, and 2-4 years of relevant experience or technical schooling.
