Job summary

Surf Internet is hiring a Fiber Splicer to install, repair, and test fiber optic cables in aerial, underground, and buried environments. The role involves reading engineering plans, splicing, and ensuring safe operation of test equipment. Candidates must pass a splicing test and meet safety standards.

Physical endurance and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions are required. A valid driver's license is also needed.

Qualifications

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Previous fiber splicing experience required; a splicing test will be conducted during the interview.
Must meet safety-related requirements including OSHA standards.
Must be able to perform physical requirements of the job, including lifting up to 100 pounds, working aloft, and entering confined spaces.

Responsibilities

Receive work assignments from supervisor or designated personnel.
Read and interpret engineering plans and vendor specs for installation/repair of optic equipment.
Perform splicing operations for aerial, underground, or buried facilities.
Locate and clear trouble in outside plant fiber facilities.
Prepare cables for splicing and testing; operate test equipment to detect faults.
Work aloft; climb ladders/poles; work outdoors in all weather conditions.
