Job summary

Bigham Cable Construction, Inc. is seeking a hands-on Fiber Splicer in Asheville, NC. This outdoor role involves fusing optical fibers, testing and troubleshooting post-installation, and working in all weather.

You’ll splice aerial and underground cables, document field work, and maintain safety at heights. Must be 18+, have a valid driver's license and be able to pass a DOT physical; splicing experience preferred, with 6 months in telecom or 1 year in the field.

Qualifications

• 6 months of splicing experience or 1 year in telecommunications.
• High School Diploma, GED, or relevant work experience.
• Valid State driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Ability to pass DOT physical exam and obtain medical card.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Authorization to work in the United States for this company.

Responsibilities

• With guidance, perform cable upgrades and splicing tasks, both aerial and underground
• Test, activate, and troubleshoot the network’s circuit post-installation
• Ensure all splicing operations meet customer and industry standards
• Safely navigate working at different heights, from underground to in the air
• Complete basic daily maintenance of vehicles, including fluid checks
• Document work performed through daily production reports, including marking up maps and keeping correct material usage records
• Other duties as assigned
