Job summary

Timmons Group is seeking an Outside Plant Engineer (OSP Engineer) in Richmond, VA to provide technical and engineering support for fiber-based outside plant networks. The role emphasizes OSP design, field verification, and collaboration with multiple departments to meet make-ready and permitting criteria.

The candidate should have 2–5 years of OSP telecom experience, familiarity with GIS-based design, and strong communication and project management skills. A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 2-5 years of experience with OSP underground and aerial telecommunication.
• Understanding of network architecture and outside plant engineering.
• Knowledge of NESC and RUS construction code for telecommunications.
• Experience engineering in a GIS based program.
• Knowledge of the permitting requirements across local jurisdictions.
• Strong project management and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Identify, diagnose, and resolve network issues; coordinate with vendors and personnel for deployment and maintenance of OSP networks.
• Provide leadership to OSP Engineer resources.
• Design hundreds of miles of outside plant for a major network deployment.
• Perform low level fiber engineering using GIS environments.
• Conduct field visits and network verifications.
• Review permits and construction drawings for engineering integrity.
• Maintain orderly project records and documents.
• Collaborate with other departments on make-ready, permitting and fielding to meet OSP design criteria.
• Review as-built plans and test results.
• Work in ArcGIS/Pro or QGIS environments.
