Job summary

Hawaiian Telcom is seeking a field service technician to install and repair fiber and copper services for residential and business customers in Honolulu. You will install equipment, configure networks, explain usage, and document work in real time while coordinating with customers and other vendors.

The role involves regional travel, outdoor work in varying conditions, safety adherence, and occasional overtime. Valid driver’s license and strong communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• Tests - Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the testing program.
• Physical Demands - Ability to identify and distinguish tones/levels; colors; work in confined areas; lift and carry tool boxes, drop wire, parts containers and installation loads; climb poles/ladders; set-up ladders.
• Mental Demands - Requires alertness and attention to detail; valid driver's license; ability to obtain security clearances; positive attitude and work ethic.
• Working Conditions - Indoor-outdoor work; adverse weather; overtime; travel between islands as needed.

Responsibilities

• Installs Fiber and copper services to homes and businesses; discusses service needs with customers and makes recommendations.
• Installs, rearranges, and removes structured wiring and cables (CAT3/5e/6, COAX, Fiber); sets up gateways, set-top boxes, and TV services.
• Assists customers with Wifi configuration and network assessment.
• Uses test equipment and power tools to verify wiring, bonding, light readings, Internet speeds, and wireless coverage.
• Records work data on orders via mobile devices.
• Interfaces with customers and coordinates with other vendors; provides status updates.
• Performs multi-dwelling unit upgrades and reports scope changes to management.
