Job summary

Hawaiian Telcom in Hawaii seeks a skilled field technician to install and repair fiber and copper services for residential and business customers. You will install equipment, configure networks, and assist customers with WiFi and TV/HSI services, while following safety rules.

The role requires physical ability to lift tools, climb poles, and work in varied weather conditions, with weekday to weekend schedules and occasional overtime.

Qualifications

  • Requires valid driver’s license and ability to operate manual transmission.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks including lifting and climbing.
  • Willingness to work varying shifts and travel to job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Installs fiber and copper services to customers’ homes or businesses; assesses needs and makes recommendations.
  • Installs, rearranges, and removes structured wiring including CAT5e, CAT6, COAX, and fiber; installs ONTs, gateways, and set-top boxes.
  • Assists customers with WiFi configuration and network setup.
  • Uses test equipment and power tools to verify proper wiring, cabling, balance, and signal readings.
  • Terminates various cables and fabrics; labels and dresses cables.
  • Records work data on orders using mobile devices and laptops.
  • Interfaces with customers and vendors; provides status updates and communicates issues.
  • Performs multi-dwelling unit upgrades and service changes; reports scope changes to management.
  • Operates company vehicle to travel to daily work sites.
  • Adheres to safety practices and company policies.
