Job summary

NeuroBionics in Somerville, MA is seeking a Research Engineer to help design and fabricate the fibers, tooling, and manufacturing steps behind our fiber-based neural interfaces.

This hands-on role requires building rigs with Arduino control, performing mechanical characterization and FEA, and leading process improvements for IO fiber connectorization and production transfer. You will work on evFiber and IO fiber programs, develop SOPs, and train technicians to scale manufacturing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, or related field.
• 4+ years of hands-on engineering experience with physical products.
• Experience designing and building jigs and electromechanical devices.
• 3D design, CAD, and 3D printing experience.
• Experience with mechanical characterization, modeling, and simulation (FEA).
• Independent, detail-oriented problem solver with leadership ability.
• Preferred: FTIR/SEM/TGA and machining experience.
• PCB design and soldering experience.

Responsibilities

• Rig/Jig design and automation for manufacturing steps.
• CAD design and 3D printing of tooling to support production.
• Lead IO fiber connectorization process improvements and new designs.
• Develop SOPs and manufacturing transfer documentation.
• Characterize fiber mechanics and perform simulations (FEA).
• Design and fabricate functional fibers and preforms.
