Job summary

Thayer-Power-and-Communication-Line-Constructio is seeking a field technician to repair and maintain major cable systems and structures at remote sites. You will read orders and drawings to perform tasks in a logical sequence, perform concrete construction tasks such as digging, pole work, and laying cable, and operate specialized power equipment as needed.

The role requires climbing and lifting capability, experience with safety procedures, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather.

Qualifications

• Valid Class A CDL preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of approved telecom line construction practices and tools.
• Ability to read orders, specifications and drawings.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and climb structures.
• First aid procedures and CPR knowledge.
• Ability to perform calculations for drilling and pole sizing.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at elevations.
• Ability to analyze and solve problems.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain major cable systems and structures per work orders.
• Read specifications and drawings to determine work sequence.
• Perform construction tasks: digging, pole work, wiring lay and stringing.
• Operate power equipment (compressors, pumps, hydraulic tools, lifts).
• Check gas in manholes and manage debris in manholes.
• Dismantle, move, and install wires, cables and related hardware.
• Connect wires to terminals and hardware on poles/buildings.
• Respond to outages and emergencies with heavy construction work.
• Ensure safety for customers and the public; comply with orders.
• Work outdoors in all weather; complete daily production and as-built reports.
