TDS Telecom in Bend, OR is hiring a Fiber Construction Technician to support outside plant fiber installations, both buried and aerial. You will gain in-house CDL training and safety instruction, with progression through underground and potential aerial training in a 4‑week program.

Qualifications

• 6+ months experience in customer service, electrical or utility construction, technical certification (or higher), or military service.
• Must follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and be DOT eligible.
• Ability to obtain Class A CDL; in-house CDL training may be provided.
• Physical requirements: climb poles, ladders, towers; kneel, dig, lift, pull.
• Pass Safety Training and customer-specific background checks as required.
• May require travel and overtime; operate vehicles with manual transmissions.

Responsibilities

• Performs general construction labor in various weather conditions with safety fundamentals.
• Transports construction equipment to and from the worksite.
• Places new aerial and buried fiber according to maps and locate markings.
• Uses hand tools, cable locators, test equipment; installs enclosures, vaults, pedestals, handholes.
• Climbs poles and uses bucket truck when required; marks fiber facilities.
• Uses dispatching tools and assists with fiber splicing and repairs.
• Performs outside plant preventative maintenance and completes related paperwork.
• Provides assistance to field services technicians as needed.
