Job summary

Astound is seeking a Construction Manager to coordinate with utilities, engineers, and permitting authorities, oversee right-of-way activities, and support network design and capital projects. You will supervise construction personnel and ensure safety and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires 5–10 years in telecom construction, deep knowledge of codes, GIS, fiber, and project management.

Qualifications

  • 5 years Cable Television or Telecommunications technical experience.
  • 7-10 years of experience in working and/or supervising a cable TV/telecommunications construction department.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Codes and G.O.95 and 128.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a clear and straightforward manner.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate others.
  • Ability to use personal computer and software applications (i. word processing, spreadsheet, etc.).
  • Ability to manage and complete multiple projects; amounts of projects, sizes, complexity, budget value, duration, etc. will increase with each level for Fiber Construction Lead I through Manager, Fiber Construction.
  • Advanced understanding of proper safety construction practices.
  • Advanced understanding of fiber route planning and engineering for building entry and network expansion projects.
  • Advanced understanding of the permitting process for railroad, DOT, cities, counties and pole owners.
  • Advanced understanding of fiber splicing and installation practices.
  • Advanced understanding of network topology.
  • Advanced knowledge of fiber optic principles and methodology.
  • Advanced understanding of GIS.
  • Ability to build and establish effective relationships with municipalities, government agencies, property management, vendors, etc.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Ability to track and analyze data against project forecasts.
  • Strong critical-thinking, attention to detail and time management skills are required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment without supervision.
  • Ability to provide training and support for Construction Lead I-II.
  • Ability to live within 30 miles, or maximum of 1-hour commute during regular commuting hours from the assigned territory.
  • Must have ability to operate standard office equipment, to include personal computer, telephone, copier, facsimile machine, and calculator.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with utilities, municipalities, engineers, developers, and permitting authorities.
  • Manage make-ready and right-of-way activities; support network design and capital project development.
  • Track construction progress and address issues with project leadership.
  • Review and process damage claims; develop capital projects and purchase requests.
  • Supervise construction personnel and coordinate in-house and contract labor for new and rebuilt projects.
  • Communicate with Project Manager regarding construction progress concerns.
  • Ensure adherence to agreements and local/state codes and safety standards.
