  • Assist with physical processing of library materials including labeling and binding tasks.
  • Mend library materials such as spine replacements and page repairs.
  • Maintain the library's online catalog and verify inventories.
  • Retrieval and delivery of library materials within the library.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by RAD staff and faculty.

Federal Work-Study Student: Resource Acquisition Department

Position Summary

Provides assistance to members of the Resource Acquisition and Discovery department, including support for the institutional repository and digital collections.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting the institutional repository by uploading materials (e.g., articles, theses, presentations, and multimedia content) and organizing files according to established guidelines.
  • Reviewing and editing metadata for repository records to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness (e.g., author names, titles, abstracts, keywords, and dates).
  • Performing quality control checks on repository records to improve discoverability and adherence to metadata standards.
  • Creating, editing, and reviewing captions and transcripts for video and multimedia content to ensure accessibility compliance.
  • Assisting with accessibility improvements for digital materials in accordance with institutional and ADA best practices.
  • Assisting with physical processing of library materials, which can include generating and applying labels to library materials, applying mylar covers to book jackets, packaging and stamping library materials, and creating pockets for loose materials in PAM binders for multiple forms of library materials.
  • Mending library materials, including spine replacements, applying Filmoplast to damaged pages, tipping in pages, and creating phase boxes.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of the library’s online catalog and verifying inventories of library resources.
  • Retrieval and delivery of library materials to and from various locations within the library.
  • Other duties as assigned by RAD staff and faculty.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of arithmetic, spelling, alphabetical order, Business English, and modern office practices and procedures (including working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel).
  • Ability to comprehend and make inferences from written material and verbal and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with other staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when performing metadata entry and reviewing digital content.
Work Environment and Physical Demands

Duties may require lifting boxes of books, unpacking boxes, shelving library materials, and loading, pushing, maneuvering, and unloading carts of books weighing up to 300 pounds. Additionally, it may be necessary to use a step stool to reach top bookshelves. Work also includes computer-based tasks involving prolonged screen time for metadata entry and captioning.

Work Schedule

This position is needed for a limited schedule of 10–12 hours per week, which must be completed Monday–Friday from 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
