Job summary

GovExec seeks a reporter for Nextgov/FCW to cover emerging technologies in the federal government, including AI and quantum computing, and to track technology policy in the White House, Congress, and civilian agencies. The role emphasizes clear explanations of complex federal tech stories for a broad audience.

The reporter will join GovExec’s editorial team, with a hybrid/remote setup across the United States and opportunities to attend events and interface with government leaders and industry

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience
• Experience covering technology issues or other relevant experience relating to covering the federal government
• Strong writing and analytical skills and high attention to detail
• Ability to quickly digest complicated information and produce stories on deadline

Responsibilities

• Writing breaking news stories and enterprise features for digital and print
• Developing key sources and leveraging them to produce original reporting
• Attending events, moderating panel discussions and conducting recorded interviews when necessary
• Contributing to other editorial projects as needed.
