The Paralegal/Legal Assistant III role supports attorneys, reviews material, prepares digests, discovery, and settlement documents, with emphasis on research and compliance.

This position requires U.S. citizenship and a 7- (or 10-) year minimum background investigation.

Qualifications

• Paralegal certificate or HS diploma with 3+ years paralegal experience.
• One year of automated litigation support experience with automated resources for federal cases.
• Knowledge of forfeiture law, policies and procedures; trial experience preferred.
• Legal research and analysis skills with strong writing ability.
• Excellent communication; strong organizational and prioritization skills.
• MS Office proficiency and database experience.
• Commitment to customer service; able to work under pressure in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assists attorney by reviewing case material and preparing digests with legal references.
• Receives, examines, and evaluates new cases against standards.
• Assists in determining probable cause and planning evidence collection.
• Investigates facts and uses databases to prepare cases and obtain witnesses.
• Assists in discovery and witness preparation for pretrial work.
• Drafts pleadings, motions, and orders.
• Organizes files, documents, and indexing exhibits.
• Summarizes depositions and testimony for attorneys.
• Provides training to other personnel as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
