Job summary

United States Attorneys' Offices seek a legal support professional to assist AUSAs in criminal and civil prosecutions, performing research and drafting briefs, motions, and correspondence. You will manage discovery and organize trial materials while following USAO precedents and policies.

The role involves preparing exhibits, reviewing data, and assisting with legal analyses as cases progress, with opportunities for professional growth as responsibilities increase.

Qualifications

• Specialized Experience: 1 full year at GS-7 level or equivalent in legal research and analysis.
• Education: graduate degree (LL.B./J.D.) or 2 years of graduate study in a related field.
• Combining Education and Experience: graduate study in excess of 1 full year may count toward qualification.
• ICTAP/CTAP: eligibility and proof requirements may apply.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine legal support to Assistant United States Attorneys in criminal or civil prosecutions.
• Conduct legal research using statutes, cases, and public records; locate precedents and legislative histories.
• Draft initial legal and administrative briefs, motions, and correspondence for AUSA review.
• Manage discovery and evidence, including exhibits for court presentation.
• Prepare and organize trial exhibits, documents, and memoranda for review by AUSAs.
• Interpret guidelines and policies governing work assignments.
