Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Chief Counsel seeks an attorney with a Juris Doctor to provide legal guidance on real property matters, including title reviews for CBP-funded land acquisitions.

Applicants should have at least one year of specialized experience in real estate or title law and be in good standing with the bar. Position may involve drafting conveyancing instruments, supporting DOJ agency counsel in civil actions, and conducting legal research.

Qualifications

• Requires Juris Doctor (J.D.) from ABA-accredited law school.
• Active, good standing bar admission in a U.S. state, territory, DC, or Puerto Rico.
• At least one year of specialized experience in real estate or title law.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal guidance and advocacy for CBP on real property matters, including title review for land acquisitions.
• Draft and revise land conveyancing instruments (deeds, sales agreements, assignments, etc.) to comply with applicable laws and DOJ regulations.
• Support DOJ as agency counsel in civil actions and assist with eDiscovery, pleadings, and mediation.
• Conduct legal research across CBP's portfolio on title review, federal land acquisition, and fiscal laws.
