Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Chief Counsel seeks attorneys to provide legal guidance on real property matters, including title review for CBP-funded land acquisitions and associated conveyancing issues.

Duties include drafting deeds, sales and assignments to comply with DOJ Title Regulations, supporting DOJ as agency counsel in civil actions, and delivering training on title review and land acquisition.

Responsibilities

• Providing legal guidance to CBP in real property matters, including detailed title review for CBP-funded land acquisitions and conveyancing issues.
• Drafting land conveyancing instruments such as deeds, sales and exchange agreements, assignments and subordination documents to comply with DOJ Title Regulations and agency land acquisition goals.
• Supporting the Department of Justice as agency counsel in civil actions by preparing litigation materials, affidavits, eDiscovery, and participating in motions and settlements.
• Conducting legal research and applying laws and guidance across the CBP portfolio, including title review, federal land acquisition, and fiscal and appropriation laws.
• Developing and delivering legal training to CBP managers and employees on title review, federal land acquisition, and CBP fiscal activities.
