Job summary

CDM Smith in Independence, MO is seeking a skilled Cost Estimator to prepare detailed, discipline-specific project estimates using MII (MCACES II), PACES, RSMeans and Success Estimator. You will analyze contractor cost proposals, interpret drawings and statements of work, support value engineering, and ensure compliance with FAR, CAS and UFC standards while collaborating with project teams.

Up to 100% travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
• 5 years of relevant experience.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience considered in lieu of a college degree.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to pass a federal background check.
• Experience with Federal construction cost estimation and FAR/CAS.
• Proficiency in cost-estimating software (MII, RSMeans, PACES, Success Estimator).
• Ability to read drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates using MII, PACES, RSMeans, and Success Estimator.
• Analyze contractor proposals for FAR/DFARS/ Davis‑Bacon compliance.
• Interpret drawings and SOW to develop estimates across design stages.
• Develop cost models and historical data for estimating accuracy.
• Collaborate with PMs, COS, engineers, and contracting officers.
• Support value engineering and life-cycle cost analyses.
• Prepare justification documents for government reviews.
• Ensure compliance with FAR, CAS, and agency policies.
• Assist in pre-bid meetings and design reviews.
• Travel 100%.
