Job summary

US Social Security Administration seeks qualified applicants under Direct Hire Authority (DHA). Positions are open to all U.S. citizens and will be filled as new civil service appointments. Telework may be available in accordance with agency policy; this is not a virtual position.

Applicants must pass a COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT INTERVIEW PROCESS (CAIP) after eligibility determination to be fully qualified for consideration. Panel interviews may be conducted via video conferencing where feasible.

Qualifications

• GS-5: Three years of general experience equivalent to the next lower grade level that demonstrates the ability to review problems, gather data, plan and organize work, and communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• GS-7: One year of specialized experience at GS-5 (or equivalent) involving entitlement to receive benefits, adjudicating or reconsidering claims, explaining entitlements, evaluating program operations, or interpreting program requirements.
• GS-9: Fifty-two weeks of specialized experience at GS-7 level, including assisting entitlement, adjudicating or evaluating benefit programs.
• Note: Part-time work is prorated in crediting experience (e.g., 20 hours/week for 12 months = 6 months).

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals in establishing entitlement to receive benefits (e.g., retirement, disability, public aid, insurance, taxes).
• Adjudicate, authorize or reconsider claims; explain benefits to the public.
• Evaluate benefit program operations to assess integrity and quality; interpret program requirements to formulate policies.
