Job summary

Steampunk seeks an AI Governance Analyst to operationalize a compliant AI governance program for a large federal client. You will translate federal AI policy into day-to-day processes, maintain the AI use case inventory, and track risk across deployments.

The role requires experience translating regulatory guidance into actionable workflows, familiarity with NIST RMF, and strong written communication. Local DC Metro area preferred, security clearance may be required.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
• Bachelor's degree preferred in Public Policy, CS, Data Ethics, Cybersecurity, Law, or related field.
• 5+ years of AI governance, risk, or compliance experience (policy/process focus, not AI development).
• Experience translating regulatory guidance into operational checklists and workflows.
• Familiarity with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework.
• Understanding of responsible AI principles and model risk concepts.
• Working knowledge of ML and generative AI concepts for governance and risk assessment (not hands-on).
• Strong analytical and communication skills for translating policy requirements into actionable guidance.
• Strong documentation and inventory-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Operationalize an AI Governance Framework translating federal guidance into governance processes, checklists, and workflows.
• Build and maintain an AI Use Case Inventory categorized by solution type, lifecycle stage, and risk tier.
• Support development and maintenance of governance artifacts like model cards and risk assessments.
• Maintain a Mandate Compliance Matrix, governance dashboards, and an incident/issue tracker.
• Support the AI Compliance and Risk Management Plan addressing bias, data handling, and safeguards.
• Assist periodic audits of deployed AI use cases to ensure continued compliance.
• Monitor policy trends and regulatory updates to keep governance current.
• Contribute to reusable governance templates, checklists, and tools.
