Job summary

American Coatings Association in Washington, DC seeks a Director of Federal Affairs to advocate for the coatings industry’s priorities. You will report to ACA’s Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and manage high-level discussions with Members of Congress and staff on housing, trade, and chemicals management.

A typical day includes building a network of policymakers, analyzing legislative proposals, and coordinating with ACA teams to advance strategic goals.

Qualifications

  • BA in political science or related field required.
  • Minimum of five years of legislative experience (Capitol Hill or trade association).
  • Travel will be required in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Identify key policymakers and build and maintain positive relationships.
  • Identify and analyze legislative proposals that impact the industry and craft responses.
  • Support grassroots efforts and coordinate with industry experts.
  • Participate in legislative meetings, hearings, fundraisers, etc.
  • Develop legislative strategies to achieve industry goals.
  • Support ACA’s Government and Regulatory Affairs Committee and subcommittees.
  • Collaborate with Events, Engagement, Communications teams to meet strategic goals.
  • Represent the industry at political functions and monitor political activity.
  • Assist in organizing DC fly-ins and facility tours for members and staff.
  • Coordinate grassroots/grasstops strategy and alerts.
