Job summary

AutoZone’s Store Management team drives store performance, fosters a productive team, and ensures exceptional customer service. The Manager in Training (MIT) role is a transitional program to prepare you for a Retail Store Manager position, with hands-on assignments and structured learning over 8-12 weeks.

MITs progress into management based on performance and availability, with a focus on leadership, communication, and operational excellence in our Santa Maria, CA locations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 Year: 1-2 years of prior experience as a retail manager or supervisor.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• Exceptional communication: strong people skills and effective communication in both Spanish and English.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing store team, delivering WOW customer service.
• Maintain clear, effective communication with employees and customers to drive execution.
• Learn to manage, analyze, and reconcile monthly P&L statements to optimize profitability.
• Support store operations and ensure adherence to policies and structured training processes.
• Assist with staffing, mentoring, and training to grow a strong team.
• Lead customer service activities and resolve concerns proactively.
• Oversee inventory, merchandising, and sales strategies to maximize success.
• Complete management skills training and learn key store operation aspects.
