Job summary

Solomon Page is hiring an Assistant Buyer in New York City to support the Buying team with seasonal strategies, reporting, assortment, and order maintenance. The role emphasizes organization, analytics, and cross-functional coordination in a fast-paced retail environment.

The ideal candidate has 1–3 years in retail buying or related functions and strong Excel/PowerPoint skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in retail buying, merchandising, planning, allocation or related function; prior Assistant Buyer or Merchandise Assistant experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of retail math, including sales, margin, sell-through, inventory, markdowns and weeks of supply.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and lookup formulas; proficiency in PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into clear findings and recommended actions.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across functions.
• Proactive, adaptable and able to work independently with limited direction.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain weekly, monthly and seasonal business reports and analyze performance by category, program, style and channel.
• Maintain accurate line plans, assortment sheets, buy files and style-color-size information throughout the seasonal process.
• Enter purchase orders with accurate style, color, size, quantity, cost, retail, delivery window and channel.
• Track on-order inventory, receipts and delivery status; communicate delays or discrepancies.
• Support milestone meetings, including line reviews, assortment reviews and buy reviews.
• Monitor inventory levels, replenishment needs and in-season opportunities with Planning and Allocation.
• Manage product samples and coordinate handoffs for meetings, e-commerce and marketing.
• Conduct competitive and market research on product, pricing, promotions, trends and customer preferences.
• Support ad hoc analyses, store visits and special projects.
