About the Role

Our client, a well-established and diversified agricultural operation in the Queenstown, Eastern Cape region, is seeking an experienced and versatile Farm Manager. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of both livestock management (cattle and sheep) and crop production, alongside strong operational and financial management skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the farm, ensuring productivity, sustainability, and profitability across all farming activities. This is a hands-on position requiring dedication and a broad skill set within the agricultural domain.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all aspects of livestock operations, including breeding, feeding, health, and welfare programs for cattle and sheep.
• Plan and execute crop cultivation activities, including land preparation, planting, fertilization, pest control, and harvesting.
• Manage farm infrastructure, including fencing, buildings, water systems, and machinery maintenance.
• Supervise and coordinate a team of farm employees, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
• Develop and implement farm budgets, manage expenses, and monitor financial performance.
• Ensure compliance with all agricultural regulations, environmental standards, and biosecurity protocols.
• Source and manage inputs such as feed, seeds, fertilizers, and veterinary supplies.
• Monitor market trends and optimize sales of livestock and crop products.
• Maintain accurate farm records and prepare regular operational and financial reports.
• Implement best practices for soil conservation and sustainable farming methods.

Requirements

• A degree or diploma in Agriculture, Animal Science, Crop Science, or a related field.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in farm management, with significant experience in both livestock (cattle/sheep) and crop production.
• Strong understanding of animal husbandry, pasture management, and crop rotation.
• Proven experience in managing farm machinery, equipment, and infrastructure.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in farm financial management and record-keeping.
• Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.
• Willingness to reside in or near the farm and travel within the Eastern Cape region as required.
• Familiarity with local agricultural conditions and challenges.
• A valid driver's license.
