Key Responsibilities

• Monitor crop development and identify any issues related to pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies, reporting to the Farm Manager.
• Assist in the implementation of irrigation schedules and ensure efficient water usage.
• Oversee the proper use and maintenance of farm equipment and tools by the team.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on the farm.
• Assist in maintaining accurate records of farm activities, labor hours, and resource usage.
• Conduct on-the-job training for farm workers on specific tasks and safety procedures.
• Work collaboratively with the Farm Manager to achieve production targets and operational goals.
• Report on team performance, challenges, and any significant operational matters.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment on the farm.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Agriculture or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in agricultural field operations, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or team lead role.
• Practical knowledge of crop cultivation techniques relevant to the Western Cape region.
• Experience in supervising agricultural labor and managing daily tasks.
• Understanding of irrigation systems and basic pest/disease identification.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively lead a team.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Basic understanding of farm machinery operation and maintenance.
• Knowledge of health and safety standards in an agricultural setting.
• A proactive attitude and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to keep accurate records and reports.
• A valid driver's license is preferred.
