Common Thread Farm is a 17 acre vegetable farm in Central NY that grows mixed vegetables using sustainable methods for on farm and delivered CSA, and a small amount of wholesale. We are a family farm with two owner/managers with over 25 years experience each growing vegetables for CSA. We prioritize soil health, using a permanent raised bed tillage system and planting about half the farm to cover crops each year. We work to make our food accessible to all by running a sponsored share program and donating to local soup kitchens and food pantries. We work to build a positive and safe workplace and welcome diversity of race, sex, sexual orientation, gender, age, family status, and religion.
Come farm with us! We find joy and meaning in growing healthy food for local communities and seek crew members who resonate with this. Our full time crew member positions are full time March through mid December and part time in January and February but pay in the off season is supplemented by participation in the NYS Shared Work Program. A full time crew member starting this late summer or fall will participate in harvest, wash and pack, and farm maintenance through March. From March though June we do a lot of greenhouse work, field work, tractor work and transplanting and then start harvest for CSA back up in early June.
We encourage full time crew members to learn how to use the various tractors and eventually take on one or more areas of responsibility such as Greenhouse Manager, Wash and Pack Manager, Harvest Manager, or Cultivation Manager. Farm managers also contribute to the general needs of the farm.
Compensation $20-22/hour, a CSA share, professional development opportunities, paid sick time and vacation pay. A retirement plant is available after one year of employment. We can provide assistance in finding housing locally.
