Job summary

The Salvation Army in Brunswick, GA is seeking a Warehouse/Truck Driver to support daily donor pickups and merchandise deliveries. You will operate a heavy-duty truck, follow scheduled routes, and maintain safety and documentation.

This role requires a valid driver's license and at least one year of heavy-truck experience; HS diploma or GED preferred. 29 hours per week with benefits including PTO, holiday pay, health, dental, vision insurance, and retirement options.

Responsibilities

• Drive The Salvation Army truck along scheduled routes to pickups and deliveries.

• Maintain safety, security and accountability of vehicle and donations at all times.
• Assist in thrift store and warehouse tasks and unloading as needed.

This position is responsible for:

This position drives Salvation Army truck along scheduled rout to pick-up donations and/or deliver merchandise to customers; operates the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and stat driving regulations; lifts, carries, loads and unloads a variety of donations including furniture, appliances, clothing, etc.; ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times; assists in performing work in the thrift store and warehouse.

Key Responsibilities:

• Confers regularly with the Dispatcher to maintain awareness of scheduled pick-ups of donations in accordance with the established policy.
• Reviews scheduled pick-ups to ensure they are scheduled for the correct day of the week and geographical location; Organizes scheduled pick-ups by most direct routes to save time and fuel consumption.
• Assists Truck Helper in lifting and stacking donations in the truck.
• Prepares donations receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same; Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army; Assist Truck Helper in unloading the truck at the warehouse.
• Delivers appliances and/or furniture as requested by customers.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions. Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck. Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (50-100+ lbs.) donations, i.e. furniture, appliances, etc. Work requires driving a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU: Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D., preferred but not required.
• One (1) year experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van.
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
