Job summary

Upper Valley Haven in White River Junction, VT, seeks compassionate Shelter Associate for Byrne Family Shelter. The role supports families, maintains safety, and delivers compassionate, trauma-informed care in a fast-paced shelter environment.

Responsibilities include guest orientation, daily operations, crisis response, and teamwork with staff and volunteers. Starting pay is $22.00 per hour, with a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Preferred: associate or bachelor’s degree in human services or related field.

Responsibilities

• Build positive relationships with shelter guests and families.
• Welcome new guests and orient them to shelter expectations.
• Maintain clean, safe, and welcoming shelter spaces.
• Assist with housekeeping, laundry, room preparation, and daily operations.
• Conduct building and campus safety rounds.
• Respond calmly to crises, conflicts, medical concerns, and behavioral challenges.
• Complete shift notes, incident reports, and required documentation.
• Collaborate with coworkers, volunteers, and community partners.
• Support special activities and events and participate in team meetings.
