Job summary

Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio (MHAN KYSW OH) is seeking a Family Peer Mentor to support START families in Hamilton County. The role, contracted through Job and Family Services, focuses on safety, empowerment, and connectedness for children and families.

The position requires lived experience with the child welfare system, recovery, and the ability to collaborate with caseworkers and providers. Travel and ongoing training are part of the role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter certification or able to become certified upon hiring.
• Demonstrate long term recovery from substance use disorder.
• No ongoing justice system involvement.
• Have lived experience with the child welfare system or indirect lived experience.
• Valid driver's license with insurance; able to travel as required.
• Maintain healthy professional boundaries with partners and teams.
• Model and encourage healthy boundaries for psychological safety and respect.
• Willingness to participate in continuous learning and training.
• Previous experience as a certified peer support specialist is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with child safety by coordinating with the Ohio START case worker and behavioral health provider.
• Participate in initial, weekly status, and Family Team Meetings to review progress.
• Explore family needs to empower long-term success and safety of children.
• Support parents in achieving personal independence.
• Connect families to community resources and teach navigation of the child welfare system.
• Identify barriers and develop strategies to participate fully in community resources.
