Job summary

Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio is seeking a Family Peer Mentor to join the Hamilton County START team. You will work with caseworkers, supervisors, and behavioral health providers to keep children safe and families together.

The role emphasizes recovery experience, program coordination, and community resource navigation, with a focus on empowering families and promoting independent living.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Ohio Peer Recovery Supporter certification is required or the ability to obtain it upon hiring.
• Demonstrate long-term recovery from substance use disorder.
• Demonstrate no ongoing justice system involvement.
• Have lived experience with the child welfare system or indirect lived experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
• Ability to maintain healthy professional boundaries with partners and teams.
• Willingness to participate in ongoing learning and training.

Responsibilities

• Assist with child safety by coordinating with Ohio START case workers and behavioral health providers.
• Attend initial, weekly status, and family team meetings to review progress and safety.
• Help families identify and access community resources and natural supports.
• Support parents in achieving personal independence and empowerment.
• Teach families skills to navigate the child welfare system and reduce barriers.
• Coordinate with local providers to ensure service linkage and crisis intervention.
