A sophisticated single-family office is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the accounting and financial operations across its family office, investment fund, trust structure, investment entities, and affiliated organizations.

Operating with the rigor and discipline of an institutional investment organization while maintaining the flexibility and entrepreneurial mindset of a private enterprise, the family office is seeking a Controller who will play a central role in building and maintaining best-in-class financial operations.
Reporting directly to the CEO, the Controller will own the accounting function across multiple entities, including the family's investment fund, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting while serving as a trusted partner on financial operations, treasury management, fund accounting, process development, and organizational infrastructure. This is a highly visible, hands-on position requiring someone equally comfortable managing day-to-day accounting activities while designing scalable systems, improving internal controls, and supporting strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical accounting expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and significant experience in fund accounting, partnership accounting, and complex multi-entity environments, ideally within a family office, private investment firm, hedge fund, private equity firm, or wealth management organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process across all legal entities, trusts, partnerships, and affiliated organizations
- Prepare timely financial statements, management reports, cash flow analyses, and executive reporting packages for the CEO
- Prepare quarterly financial reporting for family trustees, including entity performance, liquidity, and cash reporting
- Maintain consolidated financial reporting across all entities while ensuring accurate intercompany eliminations and reconciliations
- Ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and audit-ready at all times
Accounting Operations
- Lead the day-to-day accounting function, including general ledger, accounts payable, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Oversee the complete bill pay process, ensuring timely payment of invoices while maintaining appropriate approval workflows and internal controls
- Manage banking relationships, treasury activities, cash positioning, wire transfers, trust notes, and daily liquidity monitoring
- Maintain an accurate chart of accounts and ensure consistent accounting treatment across all entities
- Coordinate payroll processing with HR and third-party providers while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts and maintain a clean, well-documented general ledger
Multi-Entity & Family Office Accounting
- Manage accounting across a complex legal structure consisting of LLCs, partnerships, trusts, investment entities, and affiliated operating businesses
- Maintain entity-level financial records in accordance with operating agreements, trust documents, and governing legal structures
- Track and reconcile capital contributions, distributions, partner capital accounts, and intercompany transactions
- Maintain accounting records and reconciliations for complex intercompany and related-party activity across the family office structure, including entity funding, allocations, accruals, settlements, and supporting documentation
- Support accounting needs across affiliated entities and family investments as required
- Assist with accounting for investment portfolios, including public securities, alternative investments, direct investments, and special purpose entities where applicable
Tax & Compliance
- Serve as the primary liaison with external tax advisors, auditors, and other professional service providers
- Manage tax calendars to ensure timely filing of all federal, state, and local obligations
- Support annual K-1 preparation through maintenance of investment-level detail, capital accounts, cost basis, and partnership activity
- Support estate planning and trust administration matters by coordinating financial records, entity reporting, tax workpapers, and supporting documentation for outside tax advisors, estate counsel, and fiduciaries
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and governing agreements
- Support audits, reviews, examinations, and other compliance initiatives as needed
Treasury & Cash Management
- Monitor daily liquidity across all entities and maintain accurate short- and long-term cash forecasts
- Coordinate funding needs between trusts, investment entities, and operating companies
- Assist leadership with capital planning, liquidity management, and treasury strategy
- Maintain relationships with banking institutions and other financial service providers
- Prepare and monitor debt compliance as applicable
Systems, Controls & Process Improvement
- Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems and financial technologies appropriate for a sophisticated family office environment
- Design, document, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Lead process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, reporting accuracy, and scalability
- Develop standardized workflows across the accounting function to support long-term organizational growth
- Evaluate and manage relationships with accounting software providers, payroll vendors, financial institutions, and outsourced service providers
- Identify opportunities to leverage technology and automation to improve financial operations
Strategic Partnership
- Partner closely with the CEO on financial operations, reporting priorities, and organizational initiatives
- Provide financial insight and analytical support for strategic business decisions
- Assist with special projects involving investments, acquisitions, entity formation, financing activities, and organizational initiatives
- Build trusted relationships with family members, advisors, and external partners while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- CPA designation strongly preferred
- 7-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience within a family office, private investment firm, wealth management organization, private equity firm, or similarly complex multi-entity environment
- Demonstrated experience independently managing the complete accounting function
- Strong understanding of GAAP accounting, partnership accounting, and multi-entity financial reporting
- Experience managing accounting for trusts, LLCs, partnerships, and investment entities
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with modern accounting ERP systems
- Exceptional organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Unquestioned integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling confidential financial and family information
Preferred
- Experience supporting sophisticated family office structures
- Experience accounting for investment portfolios, including marketable securities, private investments, and alternative investments
- Experience supporting estate planning, trust administration, and related tax coordination matters within a family office, wealth management, or private client environment
- Familiarity with SPVs, Reg D entities, private funds, and complex investment structures
- Experience building accounting processes and infrastructure within a growing organization
- Experience implementing accounting systems or leading ERP enhancements
- Prior experience working directly with principals, CEOs, or family office leadership
- Active CPA license

Compensation: Annual salary range of $175,000-$225,000, based on experience and qualifications, with comprehensive benefits.
