Job Summary: The Controller oversees all financial operations, general ledgers, treasury functions, and reporting packages for the family office, holding companies, real estate entities, trusts, and philanthropic foundations. This hands‑on financial leader ensures institutional‑grade accounting rigor, maintains strict confidentiality, and acts as a primary liaison to external tax, investment and legal advisors.
- Own the full general ledger and accounting cycle across complex multi‑entity, partnership, and trust structures.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, balance sheets, and income statements.
- Oversee project accounting and financial tracking for real estate holdings, construction projects, and lifestyle assets.
- Deliver clean, organized financial packages and summaries for family governance meetings and strategic planning sessions.
2. Treasury & Investment Management
- Monitor, manage, and reconcile of bank and custodial accounts across multiple financial institutions.
- Oversee cash flow planning, liquidity management, and capital call fulfillment for alternative investments (private equity, venture capital, hedge funds).
- Work with investment managers and oversee family investments for performance reporting, risk management and allocation.
3. Tax Coordination & Compliance
- Coordinate with external CPAs and tax advisors to facilitate annual tax planning, compliance filings, and K‑1 reviews for individuals, trusts, and corporate entities.
- Track and manage timely payments for property taxes, estimated income taxes, and gift/estate tax schedules.
- Ensure proper documentation and compliance tracking (such as W‑9s and 1099 filings).
- Design, implement, and maintain robust internal controls and segregation of duties for capital transfers and wire approvals.
- Manage insurance programs: property, liability, health and life.
- Mitigate risks related to investments, legal exposures and compliance matters.
- Maintain records and document management
5. Family Office Support
- Property management for family real estate and investment properties
- Support family office governance process: family meetings, education and event planning.
- Support family philanthropic program and giving
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Credentials: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license strongly preferred.
- Experience:
- 8 to 10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
- Prior experience working in public accounting (with a mix of tax and audit exposure) or managing finances within a single/multi-family office, private equity, or high-net-worth wealth management practice.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel, SharePoint, financial reporting tools, and modern ERP/accounting platforms
- Soft Skills: Uncompromising personal integrity, absolute discretion with sensitive family and financial data, and strong communication skills to present complex concepts clearly to principals.
