Job description

A well-established Single Family Office is seeking an experienced Controller to lead the accounting, financial reporting, treasury, and compliance functions across a diverse portfolio of entities and investments. This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for ensuring the integrity of the accounting function, strengthening internal controls, and supporting the financial operations of a sophisticated investment platform.

The Senior Controller will serve as a key deputy on all accounting and financial reporting matters, partnering closely with executive leadership, external tax advisors, auditors, and banking partners to maintain accurate financial reporting and drive operational excellence. This position is ideal for a seasoned, hands-on accounting professional who thrives in an entrepreneurial, high-trust environment and is capable of stepping in for the CFO as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the accounting operations and general ledger for multiple entities, including investment, operating, and holding companies
• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness
• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial records prepared by the accounting team
• Prepare and review consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules for executive leadership
• Perform variance analysis and deliver financial reports and insights to executive leadership and, as needed, the family
• Ensure proper accounting for intercompany transactions, distributions, capital activity, and investment-related transactions

Investment & Treasury Management

• Oversee accounting records for a diversified investment portfolio, including private investments, funds, and marketable securities
• Track capital calls, distributions, commitments, and investment balances across the portfolio
• Monitor daily cash positions and liquidity across multiple entities, escalating funding needs as appropriate
• Coordinate cash movements and funding between entities, ensuring appropriate controls and approvals
• Oversee treasury activities and foreign currency transactions as needed

Tax, Audit & Compliance

• Serve as a primary accounting liaison with external tax advisors and auditors, alongside the CFO
• Oversee preparation of supporting schedules and documentation for annual tax filings and financial statement audits

  Systems & Process Improvement

  • Identify and lead process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reporting accuracy
  • Lead accounting system enhancements, ERP implementations, and related technology initiatives
  • Maintain and update documentation of accounting policies and internal procedures
  • Lead or support special projects and strategic initiatives as directed by executive leadership

  Leadership

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team, including staff and junior accountants
  • Serve as a key point of escalation and backup to the CFO on accounting and reporting matters
  • Foster a collaborative, service-oriented culture with a strong emphasis on accountability and continuous improvement
